    cmiVFX has released their first video of the brand new Autodesk Mudbox Beginners Quickstart by Wayne Robson. It has been four years since Wayne's last workshop. Alot has changed since then. He will be covering EVERYTHING from the ground up in Mudbox. Wayne will get you to up to speed FAST. The lesson will culminate in a full project on how to sculpt liquids. This workshop is NOT the typical intro. The methods and approaches taught here are the result of years of practical use in production.     Chapter Descriptions

    Interface

    This a tour around the interface of Mudbox explaining in full what everything is, what it does and what it affects.

    Posing and Stencils

    In this video we will be covering posing both a rigged and unrigged imported mesh. We also cover some tricks with stencils.

    UV's and Maps

    In this bit we cover maps and UV's within Mudbox: importing / exporting your mesh along with how to extract all the different map types such as vector displacement/ displacement / ambient occlusion / etc.

    Wacom and Vector Displacements

    In this one we cover how Wayne sets up his Wacom. These settings can be complex, so you will benefit from my years of experience. Next, i will be touching on the theory of vector displacement and how it differs from standard displacement.

    Turntable and Render

    Here we learn how to render out a turn-table, export an image and how to get the best out of the viewport filters.

    Tiled_Texture_Sets

    This chapter reveals how to easily create a tileable texture set in Mudbox. These can be tricking and time consuming. Done correctly you will build sets of textures that are useful for years of modeling.

    Mudwalker and Reducto

    Here is an in-depth explanation of Wayne Robson's plugin MudWalker and its accompanying stand alone application ReDucto.  Both MudWalker X and ReDucto are free to all and programmed by Wayne himself. (Windows OS only)

    Customization of Layout

    Over the years I have tried many ways to work more efficiently in Mudbox. This chapter explores viewport layout customization for Mudbox and how to create a number of layouts either for tasks you regularly perform or to be more productive.

    Lets explore the concepts of the next lesson. This bit is a quick look at the meshes, output and how we are about to accomplish liquids within Mudbox.

    Sculpted Liquids

    Its finally time to start the hand sculpted liquids project that we will take to 100% completion in real time.  This is a great demo project that is outside of the usual 'wrinkly old men, Amazonian women and monsters'. it is also a very good beginners project that includes the use of all previous chapter content.

    About Wayne Robson

    Wayne Robson was the first person to ever be awarded the Autodesk Master Award for Mudbox. Wayne currently works as 3D lead at Screen Scene VFX and has taught Mudbox around the world and was asked to lecture at the Vienna science academy. He is also the programmer behind 'MudWalker' and the 'Wayne's Vector Displacement Shader' for use with Mental ray using Mudbox vector displacement maps. As a freelance artist he has worked in TV, Games and Film. He was the founder of Mudbox Hub and owner of PsychoCore Software.

    Places he has worked for include:  Cartoon Network, Disney, Hasbro, The Open University, Sky TV, BBC Films, Space digital, The Discovery Channel, 2Entertain, Project 2813 & smaller firms such as Design by Touch. Wayne taught the artists at CCP who make the game 'Eve Online', gave the 2009 & 2010 lectures for Siggraph on Autodesk Mudbox, taught The course tutors Mudbox and Motionbuilder 2 years running at Graphics Lyceum Rotterdam, gave practical demonstrations and lectures at the world biggest Game Jam and much more. 

    His ‘hobbies' when he actually has time to fit them in, include recording his own songs (8 albums and counting), programming, Photography, DSLR film making, a rather scary film addiction, drawing monsters for his son, pulling faces for his daughter and doing very long walks in the deep countryside. He also likes to write about himself in the 3rd person, and has what has been called a 'unique' sense of humor that often seems to drive people slowly crazy. He can usually be found in front of a computer usually trying not to make cups meet wall related deaths when windows does a 'surprise' update crashing his machine. He does not always succeed. The cups usually deserve it....although they are putting in an appeal to this.
